No Ill Will Intended Toward Muslim Community, Supt. Says

Saucon Valley School District superintendent Dr. Sandra Fellin says tolerance and understanding are needed in the wake of frustration over how news of a possible threat against local schools was communicated.

Note: The following letter was submitted by Saucon Valley School District superintendent Dr. Sandra Fellin. The term "jihadists" was used in communication about a reported threat against local schools that was later determined by the Lehigh County District Attorney not to be credible.

I would like to reach out publicly in an effort to improve communication and to right a wrong that the rumors of this past week of a possible terrorist may have fueled. A term used in the communications that was sent with misinformation wrongly attributed the possible attack to Jihadists.

This information may have caused ill will amongst our Muslim community members who are our friends, neighbors and colleagues.

The message was one that was sent with no ill intent and was not to perpetuate or implicate persons due to the repeated use of this term in stories that the media continued to print.

It is important to maintain a positive working relationship with all families, varied beliefs and faiths within our community. It is only through tolerance and understanding and not casting false light that we can all work and live together to have a safer community that rejoices and is strengthened by diversity and not be divided by it.
