Local Lacrosse Team Wins Championship

The Skyhawks, who participate in Lehigh Valley Lacrosse's high school division, won the 2011 Dick's Sporting Goods Atlantic Cup Championship July 10 in Emmitsburg, Md.

A local lacrosse team made up of players from throughout the Lehigh Valley is celebrating and preparing for future competition, after winning the 2011 Dick's Sporting Goods Atlantic Cup Championship in Emmitsburg, Maryland on July 10.

The Skyhawks won the championship by defeating the Burning River 2013 team from Ohio, 8-5.

The top two finishers from each division secured berths at the upcoming Tournament of Champions Lacrosse Championship, which will be held this December in Tampa. At the championship, they will compete against teams from across the United States and Canada.

The 2011 Dick's Sporting Goods Atlantic Cup Championship was held over two days at Mount Saint Mary's University, and featured teams ranging in age from U-11 through high school.

Players from the Saucon Valley who participated are: Drew Backenstoe, Alex Butrie, Sean Kowalski, AJ Surovi and Jake Young.
