Slate Roof Workshop at Heller Homestead

The Saucon Valley Conservancy will sponsor a “Slate Roof Workshop” on Saturday, September 17, 2011 from 9am to 3 pm. (Rain Date: Sunday,September 18) at the Heller Homestead, 1890 – 92 Friedensville Road (Water
Street) in Lower Saucon Township, Northampton County.

Help replace the roof on the Heller Homestead Root Cellar
working under the instruction of Marcus Brandt. Learn the basic skills of installing slate shingles as you participate in restoring the slate roof for this historic structure.


  • Please bring safety glasses and work gloves

  • Tools and instruction provided

  • Bring lunch

  • Beverages will be provided

Pre-registration suggested. Walk-ins are welcome. Workshop donation - $20, please make checks
payable to the Saucon Valley Conservancy, Inc.

Directions:  The historic Heller Homestead, now listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is located at 1890 - 92 Friedensville Road (Water Street) in Lower Saucon Town ship, Northampton County, Pennsylvania just off the Saucon Rail Trail.  The Homestead is part of Heller Homestead Park owned by Lower Saucon Township and leased by the Saucon Valley Conservancy.  It is approximately one half mile west of Route 412 and Water Street in Hellertown.  Turn west on Water Street, which becomes Friedensville Road in Lower Saucon Township.  Go across the bridge.  The Homestead is on the left
adjacent to the Saucon Creek and opposite Creek Road.
