Time's Running Out to Apply for Chamber Scholarship

The Hellertown-Lower Saucon Chamber of Commerce is seeking applicants for its annual Phyllis M. Schnaible Merit Award. The deadline to apply is March 9, 2012.

The Hellertown Lower Saucon Chamber of Commerce, a partner of the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce (GLVCC), recently announced that it is seeking applicants for its annual Phyllis M. Schnaible Merit Award. 

The scholarship is open to any high school senior who resides in the  and will graduate in 2012 from either or any non-public school. The student must also be accepted to a post-secondary school which they will attend in the fall. The deadline for receiving applications is March 9, 2012.

The recipient should:

  • Have a B+ or 85 percent grade point average or better
  • Display leadership skills
  • Be a good communicator
  • Be active in extracurricular or community service activities

The recipient must submit an essay of not less than 150 words and no more than 200 words on, “Why I should receive this award.”

The Hellertown-Lower Saucon Chamber Merit award is a $1,000 scholarship dedicated in memory of Phyllis M. Schnaible, who was a chamber board member and an active member of its Merit Award Committee. For 11 years, Schnaible served as executive director of the where she managed ‘FORE and AFT’ programs that encouraged youths to make constructive use of their time while bridging the gap for working families whose children would otherwise be unsupervised.

The student who is selected to receive the scholarship will be honored at the .

The essay should be typed and mailed to Mary Himmelberger: 840 Hamilton St., Suite 205, Allentown PA 18101.
