Zoning Officer Discusses Delayed Dunkin' Donuts Opening

On Dec. 5, Hellertown Zoning Officer Joe Chernaskey told Borough Council that the popular donut shop franchise is now expected to open later this month or early next year.

Local fans of the coffee-and-donut chain Dunkin' Donuts have a little longer to wait until a franchise opens at 730 Main Street in Hellertown, the borough's zoning officer announced Dec. 5 at a Borough Council meeting.

The donut shop--which will occupy the former M&T Bank building--is now expected to open later this month or very early next year, Joe Chenaskey said.

"They are moving very quickly," Chernaskey said of the crews that are renovating the building, which is located across the street from and .

Chernaskey added that the crews have a deadline of Dec. 18 by which to complete their work, but said he does not expect them to meet that deadline.

"We're hoping (it will open) by the end of the month...(or) if not, the beginning of the year," he said.

"Everyone's asking (when it will open)," he added.

Chernaskey also discussed an upcoming borough planning commission meeting that will be held Tuesday, Dec. 13 at 7pm in Borough Hall.

He said a business called "Home Helpers" will present a plan for opening an office at 425 Main Street, and another plan for a business at 237 E. High Street will also be presented.

The building at 237 E. High Street was at one time a grocery store and was recently sold to a new owner, Chernaskey said.

The plan that will be presented for that building is for a rare coin business, he added.
