State Rep. Robert Freeman (D-136) announced Thursday that Hellertown has been awarded a $193,000 state grant for improvements to Water Street Park

The award from the Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program will be used to fund improvements such as a new basketball court/ice skating rink, a paved parking lot and pedestrian and other pathways accessible to those with disabilities, a news release about the award indicated.

"Hellertown has a number of wonderful community parks, and Water Street Park is very popular, with its proximity to Saucon Creek and the rail trail, as well as the ability to purchase local farm-grown fruits and vegetables when it serves as the location for the Saucon Valley Farmers' Market," Freeman said. "This grant will help the borough add even more features to the park while ensuring that all residents are able to access the park without problems."
