Valley Forge Park to Honor American Soldiers on Veterans Day

Guests can take tours and see demos from reenactments to musket demonstrations.

Valley Forge National Historical Park invites guests to celebrate the history and present day incarnation of the nation’s military with special tours, a commemoration and local dignitaries at the park on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, according to a media release from the park.

The day will begin with a commemoration ceremony at 11 a.m., followed by tours and walks led by park rangers, as well as other activities, like musket demonstrations.

Congressman Jim Gerlach, State Representative Tim Briggs, and Andrew Colket, a field representative from Congressman Patrick Meehan’s office, plan to be on hand for the festivities.        

One of the guest speakers will be Vietnam War Veteran Michael J. Mescavage, a commander of the State of Pennsylvania Military Order of the Purple Heart, who will speak about the Badge of Merit, which is said to have been designed by George Washington to honor the sacrifices made by soldiers.

Another guest speaker is William Troppman, one of the park’s own rangers, who will address the public about how General George Washington thought highly of his soldiers who served under him.

Other sights include military reenactments, musket demonstrations, and more.

The schedule:

11:00 a.m.: a commemoration ceremony at the National Memorial Arch.

12:00–3:00 p.m.: an American military program at the Muhlenberg Brigade Huts (ongoing).

12:20 p.m. & 2:20 p.m.: 40-minute ranger-led walks.

12:00 p.m. & 2:00 p.m.: 90-minute guided trolley tours (with a 10% discount to all military personnel).
