Some Season Pool Pass-Holders Want Refunds

Because the Hellertown Pool's opening was delayed by 12 days, some season pass-holders who bought passes with the understanding that the pool would open June 15 are asking for money to be refunded to them.

Some local residents who purchased 2013 season passes for the Hellertown Community Pool are demanding partial refunds, because the pool's opening was delayed by 12 days.

The pool was originally expected to open June 15, but it did not open until June 27 because of a delay in the installation of a new pool liner.

Season passes went on sale in the spring, when it was not known that the pool's opening would be delayed.

"They should have discounted the price (of the season passes)," wrote Stacy Mansfield Hall on Hellertown Patch's Facebook page. "There was an article in the paper that they can charge the contractor for lost revenue. We lost 2 weeks! That's a lot when your only open till the 23rd of August!"

Added Kelly Opitz Buki: "As the season is already shorter than every other pool in the area, some sort of 'refund' would be nice. When I purchased the season passes at the end of May I wasn't made aware of the delay in the already late opening of the pool. If I had I wouldn'thave put out the $130 until I knew the pool would be opening."

Reader Lisa Peteto, however, disagreed.

"I've been going to that pool since I was a little girl," she wrote. "Some summers are better than others. Why does everyone always need to be so greedy??? Let it go. Enjoy the pool. Be thankful for what you have!"

And Lisa Sasserath Boehm also questioned the need for a refund.

"To the best of my knowledge, the Hellertown Pool is not a 'for-profit' establishment," she wrote. "Wouldn't a refund, even a prorated refund, be taking money out of our own tax-paying pocket in a sense? The season pass is just that—for the season the pool is available for use."
