The Route 412 closure that was originally planned for Wednesday morning has been confirmed for Thursday, Dec. 13, the Borough of Hellertown has announced.
The 600 block of Main Street in downtown Hellertown will be closed between Water and Penn streets from approximately 9am to 1pm so a temporary bridge can be placed over the culvert that diverts the Silver Creek underneath the roadway in that block.
A temporary bridge is needed because Central Jersey Trucking and Rigging will be moving a 500,000-pound piece of equipment south on Route 412 from the Commerce Industrial Park in Bethlehem--a move that has been approved by PennDOT.
During the move, both borough and state police will assist with traffic control in the area.
Traffic on Route 412 north will be detoured onto Penn, Northampton and Water streets, while southbound Route 412 traffic will be detoured onto Water, Front and Walnut streets.
A number of businesses in the block that will be affected by the road closure have announced that they will remain open, with off-street parking available for customers.
