Traffic to Be Detoured Due to Rt. 412 Bridge Project

The bridge replacement project on Route 412 in Springfield Township, Bucks County, is expected to be completed in June 2014.

PennDOT announced Thursday that it will start construction next week on an $816,461 project to replace a structurally deficient bridge on Route 412 (Hellertown Road) over Cooks Creek in Springfield Township, Bucks County

Construction is scheduled to start next Wednesday (Aug. 14).

While construction is taking place, through traffic on Route 412 will be detoured over Flint Hill Road, Richlandtown Pike, State Road and Route 212, PennDOT announced. 

Local access will be maintained up to the construction zone, with a temporary traffic signal installed at the intersection of Richlandtown Pike and State Road "to facilitate traffic flow during the project," PennDOT said.

Crews will replace the existing one-lane bridge with a new single-span, precast reinforced concrete arch structure, the release said. 

The new bridge will have two 11-foot travel lanes and two 5-foot shoulders, and the PennDOT contractor overseeing the project will also stabilize the creek embankment at the bridge, it also said.

The new bridge is expected to open in June 2014, PennDOT said.

The current bridge. built in 1919, is 18 feet wide and 14 feet long and carries 4,278 vehicles a day, according to the news release.

Grace Industries Inc. of Bath is the general contractor on the project.
