PennDOT Project Will Affect Cherry Lane Monday

A blacktopping project will result in restrictions on Cherry Lane in Hellertown on Monday.

The Borough of Hellertown issued an urgent notice to residents late Friday about road work that will affect "the entire length of Cherry Lane" on Monday, Aug. 5.

According to the notice, the one-day PennDOT project will entail placing a coat of blacktop on Cherry Lane and repainting lines on the roadway.

Cherry Lane forms part of the boundary line between the City of Bethlehem and the borough.

Its northern side is in the city, while its southern half is in the borough.

It is also the primary route between Easton Road and the Route 412/I-78 interchange, which is currently under construction as part of a three-year, $36 million widening and improvement project.

The borough said it was notified by PennDOT about the Cherry Lane project on Friday.

Earlier in the week, PennDOT warned motorists traveling to Musikfest—which began Friday—to avoid using Route 412 or risk sitting in heavy traffic.

"The contractor will be placing door hangers on the doors of residents in the area, with details of the project, on Saturday, Aug. 3," the statement from the borough indicated. "The Borough wishes to apologize for any inconvenience this might cause borough residents."
