PennDOT Looking for Winter Maintenance Workers

The office of State Rep. Justin Simmons (R-131) says the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation hopes to fill positions that will supplement its permanent winter maintenance workforce.

It may be the dog days of summer, but the folks at the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation have winter on their minds--winter maintenance, that is.

PennDOT will again sponsor a winter maintenance program for 2012 for a variety of positions to supplement its permanent workforce, said recently in a press release.

In spite of its "wintry" name, the program actually runs from September through April.

The majority of positions available are Transportation Equipment Operators (TEOs).

Candidates for these and mechanic positions are subject to pre-employment drug tests and random drug and alcohol tests. In addition, applicants' driving records will be checked for verification of license information.

Applicants for the TEO positions must have a Commercial Drivers License (CDL), with the Airbrake restriction lifted and six months of experience in the operation and maintenance of single-chassis trucks. Applicants, who will be tested during the interview process, must also be able to operate a manual transmission truck.

Interested applicants must apply online by the close of business on Wednesday, July 25, 2012.
