Parking May Be Restricted Near 'Intersection of Concern'

On Jan. 17, Hellertown police chief Robert Shupp told Borough Council that a recent traffic accident at an unusual borough intersection has highlighted the possible need for further restrictions on parking in the area.

A recent accident at the intersection of Durham Street, Penn Street and Delaware Avenue in Hellertown has highlighted the need for a review of traffic safety in that area, police chief Robert Shupp told Borough Council Jan. 17.

He told council that during a visit to the intersection following the accident, he observed that he did not have a clear sight path for oncoming traffic.

Shupp said that cars parked on the street were obstructing the sight path, and that he is proposing expanding a "No Parking" area in order to improve visibility for motorists.

Councilman Tom Rieger also requested that residents who live near the intersection be notified that the subject will be on council's next meeting agenda.
