New School Zone in Place at St. Theresa's

Hellertown Police Chief Robert Shupp told Borough Council the reconfigured school zone "makes sense."

A reconfigured school safety zone surrounding  near Easton Road is now in place, Hellertown Police Chief Robert Shupp told Borough Council Sept. 4.

The reduced speed zone includes Wilson Avenue and "people are pretty happy about it," he said. "Hopefully people stay safe."

Shupp also updated council on the hiring status of a crossing guard who could serve as a back-up guard for the busy intersection of Constitution Avenue, Panther Way and East Walnut Street, which is adjacent to the campus.

Background checks on the applicant are currently being completed, he said, calling them "a formality."

One of the borough's regular crossing guards remains on sick leave, and another guard recently declared that she may retire after the school year, Shupp noted.
