New Rt. 412 Bridge Near Springtown is Open

A new bridge on Route 412 between Hellertown and Springtown is now open, PennDOT announced Thursday. The bridge was finished seven months ahead of schedule.

PennDOT announced Thursday morning that the new Route 412 bridge over Cooks Creek in Springfield Township, Bucks County—between Hellertown and Springtown—has opened seven months ahead of schedule.

"We are extremely pleased to open the new Route 412 (Hellertown Road) bridge well ahead of schedule for the motorists and businesses in Upper Bucks County, especially with the busy holiday season approaching,” PennDOT District 6 Executive Lester C. Toaso said in a news release.

According to PennDOT, crews replaced the former 18-foot wide, one-span bridge with a new single-span, precast reinforced concrete arch structure.

The new 32-foot wide bridge has two 11-foot travel lanes and two 5-foot shoulders.

PennDOT’s contractor also stabilized the creek embankment, the news release said.

The contractor began construction on the old structurally-deficient bridge—which carried 4,278 vehicles a day when it closed—on Aug. 13, 2013.

The new bridge was originally forecast to open in June 2014.

Grace Industries Inc. of Bath was the general contractor on the $816,461 project.
