Meadows Road Near Rt. 412 to Close for Emergency Repairs

Motorists who regularly use Meadows Road to get to or from Route 412 in Lower Saucon Township should be prepared for a detour that's expected to last two weeks.

Lower Saucon Township officials announced Wednesday that a section of Meadows Road near Route 412 will close for an emergency streambank stabilization project beginning on or about Sept. 23.

The emergency work is needed because of streambank erosion caused by recent storms "which is threatening the loss of the roadway," a press release about the project stated.

The repairs are expected to take about two weeks to complete, and will involve the placement of streamflow detectors and rip-rap stone along the upstream bend of the Saucon Creek.

The work will be performed by the Lower Saucon Township Public Works Department.

While Meadows Road is closed between Route 412 and the Meadows Road Bridge, traffic to and from Route 412 will be detoured via Walnut Street/Skibo Road, the township said.

The Meadows Road Bridge is a historic 1858 stone arch bridge that spans the Saucon Creek.

The weight limit on the bridge was recently lowered, along with the weight limits on many aging bridges throughout Pennsylvania.
