Manager: Hand Dryers Could Save Township Money

A plan to replace paper towels with electric hand dryers in two park restrooms was embraced by Lower Saucon Township Council Sept. 5.

The cost of paper towels may seem trivial, but it adds up.

That was the message delivered to Lower Saucon Township Council by manager Jack Cahalan Sept. 5.

Cahalan said he's recommending that the disposable paper towels currently used in two public park restrooms--at Town Hall Park, route: {:controller=>"listings", :action=>"show", :id=>"town-hall-park-2"} --> and

hand dryers may make your hands dry, but all they do is recirculate the germ infested bathroom air and blow it on your hands.

? If that's the case I guess the same can be said about any building with forced air heating/air conditioning. I personally like air hand dryers because you don't have to touch a towel dispenser handle where someone else may have deposited germs.

Yes, but you don't have multiple toilets located next to your heating system in your house putting fecal matter into the air. I agree that it cuts down on trash. The ones we have at work are nice in that they are "touch free": you waive your hand under it and it dispenses a towel. Obviously, something like that is not practical in a park bathroom.

Fecal matter in the air? Really? That's quite a trick. Hand dryers will definitely save money and are much better for the environment. They are also hygienic - especially when you consider wet paper towels on the floor and in the toilet. The manager mentioned energy efficient hand dryers. Here is a place to find a comparison of the most energy efficient hand dryers. http://www.restroomdirect.com/energy-efficient-hand-dryers.aspx

OMG. Now I'm confused. I just read an article before I have gotten here where it says that hand dryers are way much better than paper towels. And now, you're telling me that it's bad. Well, thanks alot for sharing this. It has greatly helped me alot to know more about the importance and disadvantages of hand dryers.

"Now, you're telling me (hand dryers are) bad." Sorry, but that's not what the article says. This article is about a discussion that was focused on the potential savings that could come from the use of hand dryers. It's not an endorsement of hand dryers or paper towels.
