Letter: Dent Should Say 'No' to Obstructionism

Oliver Trytell of Bethlehem says with the "fiscal cliff" looming in Washington, now is not the time for partisan obstructionism.

To the editor:

. In particular, citizens in both parties overwhelmingly approved, and increasingly approve of, that portion of the plan that will maintain tax rates for over 98 percent of individuals while modestly raising taxes on the very wealthy. This proposal is not revolutionary or unprecedented; rather, it calls for a regimen under which the highest individual rates under discussion will be those that were in place prior to the Bush tax cuts. This is a fair, just and appropriate way to help avoid the "fiscal cliff" and to enhance our economic outlook.

Now is not the time for partisan obstructionism, as a growing number of Republican legislators (including those in the House of Representatives) are recognizing. I hope that Congressman Charlie Dent will support this framework, despite his voting record on virtually all major issues. It would be helpful for the Congressman to now show himself as the moderate he professes to be and now to follow the desires of his constituents as well as all citizens.
