L. Saucon Residents Told of Upcoming Library Services Changes

As of Jan. 1, Lower Saucon Township will no longer be a supporting member of the Bethlehem Area Public Library system. Instead, the Hellertown Area Library will be the home library for both borough and township residents.

As of Jan. 1, Lower Saucon Township will no longer be a member municipality of the Bethlehem Area Public Library system, and that will mean some changes for township residents accustomed to using it.

The township recently posted information in the form of a letter from the Hellertown Area Library—which will become the home library for both borough and township residents—to help Lower Saucon residents with the transition.

"This is a time of transition for HAL, and it continues to be our goal to provide quality library service to our patrons," the letter says.

It also emphasizes the fact that after Jan. 1, Lower Saucon Township residents will still be able to borrow materials from the BAPL as long as they have obtained a HAL library card with a PA ACCESS sticker on it.

The PA ACCESS program allows for borrowing from public libraries throughout the state.

"Lower Saucon residents who would like to get a new Hellertown Area Library card can do so at the library with proper identification," the letter says.

On Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, HAL staff will be at the township’s Seidersville Hall to sign up residents for new HAL patron cards from 10 a.m. to noon.

Residents with questions, or who would like to get involved with the HAL as it expands to help fulfill the information needs of a larger population, can contact HAL Director Robin Rotherham at director@hellertownlibrary.org.
