Hunting Not Allowed on Township Land, Official Affirms

Lower Saucon Township Manager Jack Cahalan said a recent story published by the Morning Call was misconstrued by some readers.

The recent publication of an article in The Morning Call about a hunting provision in a Lower Saucon Township ordinance has created confusion for some people, Township Manager Jack Cahalan said at a recent council meeting.

The article, "Lower Saucon to allow limited hunting on preserved land," was published July 1 and has resulted in phone calls from residents wanting to know when they can begin hunting on township-owned land, Cahalan said.

As it stands, hunting is not permitted on township-owned property. However, a hunting provision was included in the recent overhaul of a parks and recreation ordinance out of an abundance of caution.

The provision means hunting could be temporarily permitted if a situation involving animal overpopulation should ever arise.

"I wanted to clarify that no hunting is allowed on township property," Cahalan said.
