High Street Bridge Agreement Struck, Solicitor Says

Hellertown Borough Council solicitor Michael Corriere announced Oct. 3 that several parties have agreed to pursue state funding for a new High Street Bridge.

Several parties concerned about in Bethlehem have agreed to seek funding for a replacement from the state, Hellertown Borough Council solicitor Michael Corriere announced at council's Oct. 3 meeting.

Corriere said the parties--including the borough, the City of Bethlehem and Northampton County--all want to see the bridge replaced with a new structure.

There is currently no time table for replacing the 101-year-old bridge that has been closed since June, but .

The High Street Bridge is a one-lane timber bridge that spans a disused Norfolk-Southern rail culvert along the Bethlehem-Hellertown border.

Officials have opposed filling in the culvert because it could ultimately connect with --two trails that opened this year.
