UPDATE - 3pm: So far today turnout at most Saucon Valley polling places appears to be relatively light for a presidential election year. Voters who have shared their experiences on Hellertown Patch's Facebook page say there have been limited wait times.

Polls have shown the presidential race between Barack Obama and Mitt Romney tightening in the days before the Tuesday election.

In the last two presidential elections in Saucon Valley, Hellertown gave the nod to Democrats while Lower Saucon Township preferred Republicans.

Democrats John Kerry in 2004 and Barack Obama in 2008 won in Hellertown. Kerry beat President George W. Bush, 1,530 to 1,118, while then-Sen. Obama beat Sen. John McCain, 1,602 to 1,043.

Lower Saucon was Republican country for Bush, who beat Kerry 3,082 to 2,582, and for McCain, who beat Obama by less than 100 votes, 2,972 to 2,890.

In both elections, Hellertown mirrored the voters of its larger neighbor, Bethlehem, where Kerry defeated Bush, 18,029 to 11,882, and Obama trounced McCain, 21,616 to 10,186.
