Harris Street Bridge to Close Soon for Replacement

Motorists will be detoured around a bridge replacement project on Harris Street in Hellertown starting Tuesday.

The small Harris Street Bridge near Main Street in Hellertown will be closed for a replacement project beginning Tuesday, Sept. 3, borough manager Cathy Kichline announced in an email.

The metal grate bridge across the Silver Creek behind the 600 block of Main Street—between Water and Saucon streets—will be closed for several weeks while it's replaced.

Kichline said that approximately 100 feet of the alley on either side of the bridge will be closed during working hours.

"During nights and weekends, only the actual bridge will be closed [abutment to abutment]," she announced. "Residents on either side will always have access to their homes."

The contractor who's handling the bridge replacement project, Grace Industries, will set up road closure and detour signage in the area, according to Kichline's email.
