Group Home Proposed for Main Street Property
Hellertown Zoning Officer Kris Russo told Borough Council July 16 that a small group home has been proposed for a property at 1360 Main Street.
The Hellertown Zoning Hearing Board will hear a proposal for a group home at its Wednesday, July 18 meeting, which begins at 6:30pm at .

The facility would house no more than five people, council was told.

Councilman Tom Rieger asked if the residents would be receiving medication, and said that if they are medicated, he feels the business should be classified as a "treatment center" rather than a group home.
"It's almost a rehab," council vice president John Bate said of the proposal.

In order for the Zoning Hearing Board to approve use of the property as a group home, a special exception to the zoning ordinance would need to be granted.
According to , "all of them are special exceptions," council president Phil Weber said of group homes.
"I say, we spent a lot of time on that ordinance," he said. "Let's see if it works."
