Former Township Councilwoman Honored

Lower Saucon Township councilwoman Sandra Yerger--whose term in office ended Dec. 31-- was recognized for eight years of public service at council's Jan. 18 meeting.

Over the past eight years, councilwoman Sandra Yerger has made an indelible impression on her colleagues and served the community "selflessly," council president Glenn Kern said at a meeting at Town Hall Jan. 18.

Yerger was honored at the meeting for her two consecutive terms as a township council member, which ended on Dec. 31, 2011.

Dan Paschke, of , was the first to thank Yerger for her service.

Before presenting her with an official proclamation, Paschke wished her "good luck in your future endeavors and everything that you do."

Simmons was unable to be at the meeting, he explained, having been detained in the state capital.

After the House proclamation was presented to her, Yerger received a similar recognition from her former colleagues on township council.

Among the accomplishments specifically cited by Kern were her founding membership of the and her service as township historian.

She also served as council liaison to the , the Cook's Creek Watershed Association and various other organizations, he said.

"Every good thing that's happened in the township in the last eight years...Sandy's had a hand in it," council vice president Tom Maxfield remarked.

"I'm very happy that she got involved, and the township was served well," he added.

In other business at the meeting, Yerger was unanimously appointed to fill a vacancy on the township's planning commission.

Township manager Jack Cahalan recommended her for the appointment, citing her experience and knowledge of township issues.

Yerger will complete an unexpired term that ends on Dec. 31, 2014.
