Hellertown Borough Council accepted its emergency management coordinator's resignation "with regret" at a meeting Monday.

Chris Scherer will be replaced on an interim basis by council vice president John Bate, who is the head of Dewey Ambulance Corps, council decided.

Council also voted to advertise for a new EMA coordinator, and to consult with Northampton County emergency management coordinator Bob Mateff about the requirements needed to fill the position.

The reason for Scherer's resignation was not publicly discussed at the meeting.
