Compost Center Will Close for Season After Saturday

After Saturday, the Saucon Valley Compost Center will be closed until mid-January.

If you've been procrastinating about hauling leaves and branches to the Saucon Valley Compost Center, you might want to rethink your priorities for this Saturday, which is the center's final day of operation in 2011.

The center, which is located at 2011 Springtown Hill Road in Lower Saucon Township, will be open for drop-off of yard waste from 9am to 1pm. After that it will be closed for the month of December.

According to a public notice issued earlier this week by the , the center will reopen on the following Saturdays in January: Jan. 14, Jan. 21 and Jan. 28.

Christmas trees, additional yard waste and brush will be accepted in January, however all dates are subject to change based upon the weather.

Additional information as well as updated schedules may be posted on both the Borough of Hellertown and Lower Saucon Township websites in the coming weeks and months.

"The Borough of Hellertown and Lower Saucon Township extend our thanks to everyone that has made our fifth year of operation an outstanding success," both municipalities said in a statement that accompanied the public notice. "Please look for further announcements in the spring of 2012 as we reopen the compost center for our sixth year of service."

The compost center is jointly operated by Hellertown and Lower Saucon Township, and is open to the residents of the two municipalities.
