Borough Leaf Collection Will Begin Oct. 31

The Borough of Hellertown has announced that residential leaf collection will begin on Monday, Oct. 31 and continue through mid-December.

Leaf collection in the Borough of Hellertown will begin on Monday, Oct. 31, Public Works Director Tom Henshaw announced at Borough Council's Oct. 17 meeting.

According to an informational statement posted by Henshaw on the borough's website, leaves should be raked into gutters the week of a scheduled pickup. Leaves swept into the gutters should be free of branches, yard waste and trash, which can damage the equipment the borough uses to pick up leaves in the fall.

Henshaw said residents are encouraged to use leaves for backyard composting, but added that leaves will no longer be picked up along with regular garbage because they are no longer allowed to be dumped at the landfill.

Residents are also being asked to use off-street parking on the day of scheduled leaf pick-up on their street.

The first streets to have leaf pick-up this season will be Maple Road, Willow Road and Beech Circle on Monday, Oct. 31. Leaf pick-up is scheduled to continue throughout Hellertown's Mountainview section during the week of Oct. 31, however the schedule is subject to change, depending on the volume of leaves that need to be collected.
