Borough: Bringing Your Own Grill is Prohibited

Hellertown Borough Manager Cathy Kichline told Borough Council park rules forbid grilling in public parks unless it's done on a borough-owned grill.

Grilling hot dogs and hamburgers in the pavilion is OK, but setting up one's own hibachi next to it is not, Hellertown Borough Manager Cathy Kichline told Borough Council July 18.

Kichline researched the issue of grilling in the borough's parks after

"I would understand that outside grilling is not permitted unless it's on one of our grills," Kichline said at the July 18 borough council meeting.

The prohibition on use of personal grills exists in all borough parks, she added.

Bate said he didn't think Hellertown police officers were aware of the prohibition, but stated, "now the cops know that answer" following the discussion.

He also said he did not think the family was aware that they were doing anything wrong by tailgating across from the pool, and added that "nobody complained" because of the cookout.
