Wrong-Way Driver Caused Accident, Police Say

Hellertown Police say Cesario Branco, 82, of the borough, left the scene of a Dec. 16 accident he allegedly caused in the 1700 block of Main Street.

A Hellertown man is accused of driving the wrong way on Main Street and causing a head-on collision, before allegedly leaving the scene of the accident.

According to Hellertown Police, Cesario D. Branco Jr., 82, of the 1500 block of Clauser Street, was driving in the 1700 block of Main Street at 12:09pm on Dec. 16, 2012 when he "struck an oncoming vehicle while traveling the opposite direction in the travel lane."

In a press release about the incident, police said they identified Branco through an investigation. They identified the driver of the other vehicle as a female Stroudsburg resident.

Police said the accident occurred at a low rate of speed and resulted in vehicle damage but no injuries.

Police said Branco has been charged with Damage to Attended Vehicle or Property--a misdemeanor--and cited for two summary traffic offenses: Careless Driving and Driving on Right Side of Roadway.
