Woman Used Ex-Husband's Identity, Police Say

Michelle Rumfield of Coplay was charged with identity theft after she allegedly used a Lower Saucon resident's Social Security number and name without his permission, court records say.

A woman charged with identity theft admitted to police she used her ex-husband’s name and Social Security number without his permission to apply for a phone line, court records say.

Michelle Rumfield, 44, allegedly made the admission a day after police were summoned by ex-husband Phillip Rumfield, a Lower Saucon Township resident, who said he suspected his wife made two requests with T-Mobile Online.

Phillip Rumfield told police Monday that he checked his credit score and found an inquiry he did not authorize, the records say.

As a result of the identity theft charge, Michelle Rumfield violated her parole and probation guidelines with Lehigh County, according to her court file. The file shows she previously pleaded guilty to retail theft charges in Whitehall Township and Coplay.

The file lists her current address as the first block of S. Second Street in Coplay. Her husband resides in the 3700 block of Old Philadelphia Pike in Lower Saucon.

Michelle Rumfield was arraigned Tuesday night by District Judge Robert Hawke of Lehigh Township and committed to Northampton County Prison in lieu of $8,000 bail.
