Wire Fire, Outage Result of Hit-and-Run Accident, Police Say

Lower Saucon Township Police say a wire fire on Easton Road apparently began after a large, westbound vehicle became caught on a tension wire between utility poles.

A wire fire that broke out Saturday on Easton Road just east of Lower Saucon Road apparently began when a "large vehicle...caught the tension wire between two utility poles," Lower Saucon Township Police announced in a news release.

"The force of the stretched line snapped two utility poles off, causing a power grid outage," police said.

According to police, the vehicle responsible would have been traveling westbound on Easton Road at about 1:30 p.m.

Police, fire departments, PPL and PennDOT personnel all responded to the fire.

Anyone with information about the accident is asked to call township police at 610-317-6110.
