Truck Driver Dozed, Caused Accident on I-78, Police Say

Pennsylvania State Police at Belfast say Edward C. Altro Jr., 44, of Gardiner, N.Y., was westbound on Interstate 78 in Lower Saucon Township when he fell asleep and rear-ended another truck.

A New York truck driver was charged with careless driving, after Pennsylvania State Police at Belfast say he rear-ended another truck on Interstate 78 West at mile marker 67.5 in Lower Saucon Township.

In a news release, police said Edward C. Altro Jr., 44, of Gardiner, N.Y., lost control of his vehicle after he fell asleep shortly after 3:30 a.m. March 30.

Police said neither Altro nor the other driver was injured in the accident.

Altro was driving a 2011 International Harvester Prostar at the time of the incident, authorities added.
