Tour Bus Breaks Down at I-78 On-Ramp

The bus broke down during the Wednesday evening rush hour at the Route 412 on-ramp to I-78 East.

A tour bus broke down on Route 412 at the entrance to the I-78 East on-ramp Wednesday, snarling traffic during the latter part of the evening rush hour in parts of Hellertown and Bethlehem.

The on-ramp is located in the City of Bethlehem, but the tour bus became disabled just within Hellertown borough limits.

Borough police helped direct traffic at the scene, and shortly before 7pm squad cars were positioned with their emergency lights flashing just north of the bus, which was blocking the turning lane to the on-ramp.

Southbound traffic on Route 412 had backed up from Kichline Avenue--which is directly opposite the on-ramp--to a point near the turn-off to Shimersville Road in the City of Bethlehem. Northbound traffic on Route 412--which is Main Street in Hellertown--appeared to be less impacted.

Just after 7pm, the bus was successfully towed out of the way and traffic began to flow normally again.
