Teen's Car 'Burst Into Flames' After Hitting Tree, Police Say

Lower Saucon Township Police say the fiery accident happened on Apple Street.

A 17-year-old boy was behind the wheel of a car that struck a tree and "burst into flames" on Apple Street Jan. 19, Lower Saucon Township Police announced in a press release late last week.

Police said the accident happened in the 2500 block of Apple Street at 8:25 p.m.

They added that the car only caught fire after the driver and a passenger got out of it.

Authorities identified the passenger as a 14-year-old girl from Hellertown, and said she was "hospitalized for multiple injuries" following the accident.

According to police, the driver was cited for careless driving, reckless driving, and failure to drive at a safe speed.
