Teen Brought Folding Knife to High School: Police

Lower Saucon Township Police say a 15-year-old boy from Hellertown was found with a folding knife at Saucon Valley High School.

A 15-year-old boy from Hellertown was referred to Northampton County Juvenile Probation authorities, after Lower Saucon Township Police say he was found to be in possession of a folding knife at Saucon Valley High School April 15.

In a news release, police said the knife was discovered by "school administration."

The boy faces a charge of Possession of a Weapon on School Property, according to authorities.

Confused as to why it seems that the article thinks its a big deal that the knife was folding... Most pocket knives do fold it makes sense... Also there are most likely more kids with knives that just forget them in their pockets not everything is meant as a weapon... Everyone gets scared when a kid has something potentially dangerous it's sad

How sad... I graduated from Saucon Valley in 1978. I carried a "folding knife", a pocket knife in school from the time I was in 6th grade. All the teachers knew it. If they needed to open something, they often asked me for my knife. Now it's a "prohibited offensive weapon". I know I'm getting to be an "old guy" at 53, but it seems like those were simpler times with a whole lot more common sense.
