Speed Limit on Seidersville Road Could Be Lowered
Lower Saucon Township Police Chief Guy Lesser has requested that PennDOT consider lowering the speed limit on Seidersville Road between Old Philadelphia Pike and Fire Lane.
The speed limit on a main thoroughfare in western Lower Saucon Township is too high, according to township police chief Guy Lesser.
Township Manager Jack Cahalan told township council Wednesday that Lesser wants to send a letter to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation requesting that the speed limit on Seidersville Road between Old Philadelphia Pike and Fire Lane—the Lehigh County border—be lowered from its current 35 mph.
Council unanimously authorized sending the letter, 4-0.
Council president Glenn Kern was absent from the meeting.
Cahalan said Lesser wants the speed limit lowered because that section of the road is steeply pitched, narrow, and has homes close to it on both sides.
“The chief indicated that he has received numerous complaints from residents who feel unsafe,” Cahalan told council.
PennDOT must approve the lowering of the speed limit on Seidersville Road because it is a state-controlled road.
