Snow Emergency Declared in Hellertown Borough

The Borough of Hellertown has declared a snow emergency effective at 10 a.m. Saturday.

The snow emergency will be in effect until further notice, according to an announcement issued Saturday morning.

During a snow emergency, on-street parking is prohibited along the borough's designated snow emergency routes.

The borough has also issued a reminder to property owners that sidewalks must be cleared of snow and ice within 24 hours of the end of a winter storm.

The latest forecast from the National Weather Service calls for 5 to 9 inches of snow—plus ice—in the Saucon Valley area.

"[The] heaviest snowfall rates...should occur between about 3 p.m. and midnight when snowfall rates may reach one inch per hour with the visibility reduced at times to less than one half mile," the NWS stated in its Winter Storm Warning issued early Saturday.
