Shooting Reported on I-78 in Lower Saucon

A woman driving on I-78 near the Route 33 interchange in Lower Saucon Township was shot at by another motorist, according to Pennsylvania State Police, who are investigating the incident.

A Bethlehem motorist who was eastbound on I-78 near the Route 33 interchange in Lower Saucon Township Wednesday told state police she was involved in road rage incident that apparently escalated into a drive-by shooting, the Express-Times reported.

According to the newspaper report—which cites Pennsylvania State Police at Belfast—at about 3:45pm the woman was behind a slow-moving silver SUV in the left lane when she honked her horn and witnessed the SUV's driver make an obscene gesture.

The SUV then reportedly sped up, slowed down, and moved over to the right lane, where the woman heard a loud bang as she passed it.

The newspaper story says police found a single bullet hole in the passenger side rear door of the woman's vehicle.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information about the driver of the SUV—which reportedly bore a New Jersey registration—is asked to call state police at Belfast at 610-759-6106.
