What's being a firefighter like?
“I like it. It’s fun and it’s serious.”
How do your loved ones feel about you putting your life in danger?
“They’re OK with it. I don’t think they’re really thrilled when I run out of the house, but they’re OK with it.”
Tell us a story you'll never forget about your firefighting experience.
“I’ll tell you how I got roped into this! (Fire Chief) Rick (Delmore) would come in to and say he needs volunteers to help out. I just had my knees replaced and I told him I could drive. So, I came down and started driving and he asked for me to go to the courses just to be familiar with what’s going on. I started that and before long I decided I could go through the whole course. With encouragement from a lot of people, I made it through at the age of 48.”
What would you tell people interested in joining your fire company?
“I guess when I was younger, I never really paid attention, but I wish I had done it when I was younger because it really is rewarding to do. There is fun involved but there’s a lot of seriousness. I like it a lot. People should volunteer to help the community and be involved. It’s something I’ve always wanted to do, to help the community. It’s rewarding. It’s a good feeling when the day is done and you did well.”
