In press releases issued Tuesday and Wednesday, Hellertown Police named some of the individuals arrested for DUI at a checkpoint conducted Aug. 4-5 in the 1700 block of Main Street, near the on-ramp to I-78 East.
In addition to numerous arrests, , as it reportedly contributed to a traffic jam between Bethlehem's Sands casino and the busy interchange.
The checkpoint was conducted during the first weekend of Musikfest, and was a joint effort led by Lower Saucon Township Police.
Hellertown and Freemansburg Police also participated in the effort.
According to borough authorities, the following persons were charged:
- Terry Ann Richards, 49, of the 300 block of Bloomsbury Road, Bloomsbury, Pa., with DUI. Police said Richards' blood alcohol content (BAC) was determined to be .10 percent.
- Richard Joseph Mercaldi, 46, of the 400 block of Broadway, Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y., with DUI. Police said Mercaldi's BAC was determined to be .14 percent.
- Edward Holahan, 59, of the 700 block of Whistle Stop Lane, Quakertown, with DUI. Police said Holahan's BAC was determined to be .20 percent.
- Carlos Juan Cintron Jr., 26, of the 1200 block of East Third Street, Bethlehem, with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance (cocaine) and DAI (general impairment). Police said Cintron was found to be under the influence of alcohol but refused chemical testing. Police also said Cintron was "found to be in possession of a large amount of cocaine."
