Police: Motorist in Hummer Struck Cyclist, Fled

Lower Saucon Township Police said Tuesday that Brenda Lynn Anema of 4175 Countryside Lane has been charged in an Aug. 14 incident that allegedly occurred on Applebutter Road.

A woman from Lower Saucon Township was driving a Hummer H2 when she allegedly struck a bicyclist on Applebutter Road Aug. 14, township police said Tuesday.

In a press release, police said Brenda Lynn Anema, of 4175 Countryside Lane, struck Gary Monacelli, of the 400 block of Gaffney Hill Road, Easton, at about 8:10pm and then "fled the scene without providing aid or notifying the closest police department of the accident."

Monacelli, who reportedly suffered minor injuries, was struck from behind but was able to keep his balance and observe the color, make and model of the vehicle that hit him, according to authorities.

Police said an officer dispatched to the scene of the accident subsequently observed Anema's Hummer near the intersection of Applebutter Road and Countryside Lane.

Damage to Anema's vehicle "was photographed and was consistent with the location of the bicyclist injuries," police said, adding that Monacelli also identified it "as the one that struck him."
