Although roads were snow- and slush-covered at the time, Lower Saucon Township Police say a local motorist will be cited for "Driving at Safe Speeds" following an accident that occurred Friday, Jan. 25.
In a news release, police said Christopher M. Mamy, of the 1000 block of Third Avenue, Hellertown, reported that he was traveling at approximately 30mph in a posted 40mph zone on Bingen Road southbound when he approached the curve at the intersection with Old Mill Road.
"According to the tire marks in the snow, (Mamy) appeared to cross into the opposite lane of travel, then cross back over to the correct lane of travel," police said.
Mamy then allegedly struck an 'Adopt a Highway' sign with the passenger rear side of his vehicle, before sliding along a roadside embankment and coming to rest next to a tree.
Although Mamy was not injured, police said his vehicle was disabled and had to be towed from the scene by Saucon Collision.
The accident happened shortly after 11pm, according to authorities.
