Police, Fire Respond to Accident at I-78 On-Ramp

Shortly before 9pm, Hellertown and Bethlehem police as well as firefighters were at the scene of a traffic accident at the on-ramp to I-78 eastbound on Route 412.

Emergency responders including police from the Borough of Hellertown and City of Bethlehem as well as firefighters were at the scene of a traffic accident at a busy intersection on the city-borough line shortly before 9pm Monday evening.

Hellertown police officer Michael Dattilio was helping to direct traffic at the intersection, which is where Route 412 (Main Street) intersects with the entrance to the eastbound on-ramp to Interstate 78.

Traffic was getting through the intersection, but there were minor delays in the area.

A young woman was visible seated on the concrete median in between two entrance lanes to the on-ramp. She was clutching her legs and it appeared that she may have been injured. A police officer was helping tend to her as a young man stood nearby.

One of the vehicles involved in the two-vehicle accident was an Acura SUV, and a man talking on a cell phone stood near it. The other vehicle appeared to be a sedan.

It appeared that the vehicles may have impacted each other as both attempted to turn into the on-ramp at the same time, although the cause of the accident was not clear.
