Police: Drug Played Role in October Accident

Lower Saucon Township Police say Robert Jackson Jr., 51, of Holland, Pa., was under the influence of morphine when he wrecked his car on Leithsville Road Oct. 14.

A Bucks County man has been charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance and reckless driving as a result of an Oct. 14 accident that occurred near Bechdolt's Orchard, Lower Saucon Township Police announced Thursday.

In a press release, police said Robert Jackson Jr., 51, of the first block of Cropwell Lane, Holland, Pa., wrecked his vehicle on Leithsville Road (Route 412) shortly after 11pm.

When officers responded to the accident scene they found the vehicle upside down and on fire in the orchard, about 15 feet from the roadway, the press release said.

According to police, Jackson was southbound when he struck a utility pole--sheering it off--and rolled over 400 feet before ending up in the orchard.

In spite of the fact that he was not wearing a seatbelt, Jackson did not report being injured, police said.

During an investigation, a prescription bottle containing morphine was found in Jackson's vehicle, according to police, and "(he) stated he had taken a pill earlier."
