Police Chief: Watch Speed in School Zones

Hellertown Police are issuing tickets to motorists who fail to obey the speed limit in posted school zones.

Now that school is back in session in Saucon Valley, authorities are actively enforcing the speed limit in school zones, Hellertown Police Chief Robert Shupp announced at Tuesday's borough council meeting.

School zones are located near St. Theresa School on Easton Road and around the Saucon Valley School District campus on the Hellertown-Lower Saucon Township border.

The speed limit in those zones is reduced to 15 mph at certain times of the day, during school days, which is denoted by signs that are posted and flashing lights.

"A lot of people can’t go 15 miles per hour I guess," Shupp said.

"Pay attention," he advised. "Know when the school zone is activated."
