Police: Bethlehem Man Stole Baby Formula from Pathmark

Richard William Burkhardt Jr. stole baby formula worth approximately $450 from the Lower Saucon Township supermarket over a five day period, according to township police.

Over a five day period, a Bethlehem man stole approximately $450 worth of baby formula from the supermarket in Lower Saucon Township, township police said Thursday.

Richard William Burkhardt Jr., 42, of 1705 Barrett Drive, Bethlehem, has been charged with six counts of felony retail theft in connection with the alleged thefts.

According to police, Burkhardt was observed taking the formula by in-store surveillance and when interviewed by the store's loss prevention staff, admitted to the thefts.

On Jan. 31, "police were contacted and when they arrived to arrest Richard (Burkhardt) he had an additional $32.32 worth of items concealed on his body," a press release from the Lower Saucon Township Police Department said.

Burkhardt, who has 10 previous convictions for retail theft on his record, was also charged with six misdemeanor counts of receiving stolen property in connection with the alleged Pathmark thefts.

Burkhardt was released on $5,000 unsecured bail, police said.
