Plea Deal Possible for Mom Accused of Killing Baby in L. Saucon?

Amanda Hein, 27, of Allentown, is accused of killing her newborn baby inside a restroom at a Lower Saucon Township restaurant in August.

A 27-year-old Allentown woman accused of killing her newborn baby inside a Lower Saucon Township restaurant restroom in August is expected to face trial next year.

Prosecutors have said they intend to seek the death sentence for Amanda Hein, but at a pretrial hearing Thursday Northampton County Judge Paula Roscioli discussed the possibility of a plea agreement, whereby Hein would be sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole if she pleads guilty to first-degree murder, the Morning Call reported.

The newspaper reported that Northampton County District Attorney John Morganelli said it is too early to discuss the possibility of a plea bargain for Hein, although similar agreements have been offered to first-degree murder defendants in the past.

Hein is being represented by Chief Public Defender Michael Corriere, who also said it would be premature to discuss the possibility of a plea deal, the story said.
