Man Who Drove to Sister's Home with Gun Gets Jail Time

Hellertown resident Michael S. Kolesnik, who in March grabbed a high-powered rifle and drove to his sister's Lower Saucon Township home with plans to confront her, was sentenced Friday to 12 to 35 months in Northampton County Prison.

In the March 18 incident involving Kolesnik, police say they were alerted to his plans to confront Federowicz when his son, Michael J. Kolesnik, called 911 to report that his father was armed and that he feared his aunt might be shot and killed.

Police then attempted to intercept Kolesnik as he drove to Federowicz's home, but he refused to stop, and was only restrained once he had reached the driveway of the residence, where he was arrested.

According to the Morning Call story, Kolesnik told the court he is bipolar in June, when he pleaded guilty to charges of terroristic threats, fleeing and eluding police, reckless endangerment and possessing instruments of crime.

Northampton County Assistant District Attorney Lara Mammana Kash told the court Friday that prior to the March incident, Kolesnik consumed alcohol in spite of having serious mental problems, according to the article.

Kolesnik reportedly sobbed during the sentencing.

In a prior interview he told police that he was upset about his sister's sale of their parents' home, and that he had only wanted to frighten her with the gun when he drove to Brad Lane, according to the article.
