Man Stole 178 Redbox Movies and Games, Police Say

Brandon Meyers, of Sycamore Street, Hellertown, stole 178 games and movies from a Redbox rental kiosk over several months, Lower Saucon Township Police say.

A Hellertown man has been charged with theft and receiving stolen property after allegedly stealing 178 games and Blu-Ray movies from the Redbox rental kiosk in the Giant Food Store, 1880 Leithsville Road, Lower Saucon Township Police say.

In a press release, police identified the man as Brandon Meyers, of the first block of Sycamore Street, and said the value of the stolen items was $11,301.

The thefts occurred over several months, with Meyers "returning empty Redbox cases and keeping the games and movies," police said.

Earlier this year, a Hellertown Patch reader warned others to beware of someone who'd apparently stolen a movie he had attempted to rent from the Giant Redbox.

In a letter to the editor, George Kramer of Lower Saucon said he rented a movie and took it home, where he opened the case to find a "photocopy of the DVD, with the scan pattern placed in the correct position, enabling the person who previously rented it to return the empty box with the piece of paper instead of the disc."

Lower Saucon Police said Meyers was released on $10,000 unsecured bail after he was arraigned before District Judge David Tidd.

I work for redbox and trust me we catch and know about all the fraud. We track it very close but the courts don't care if someone steals a few. If you ever rent a fraud disc call the 800 on the dvd case or on the kiosk. Redbox will always credit you for the disc. We are working very hard to reduce the impact these criminals have on our loyal. customers.
